Trump is on trial for allegedly falsifying business records to hide the reimbursement of a hush money payment that Cohen made to Daniels, an adult film actress, in order to boost Trump's electoral prospects in the 2016 presidential election.

The gag order blocks the defendant from speaking out about potential witnesses and most people in or associated with the court or the New York district attorney's office. The contempt order comes several weeks into Trump's hush money trial in New York.

She testified that she never spoke with Trump about payment, and said she had no knowledge of whether Trump was aware of or involved in the transaction. “You have no personal knowledge about his involvement in that transaction or what he did or didn't do,” Necheles asked. “Not directly, no,” Daniels responded.
