Instead of performing the English rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Nezza, who had been invited by the Dodgers to sing the national anthem, decided to sing the official Spanish version, an homage to LA's immigrant population and as a nod to the protests happening around the country.

Nezza was not punished or kicked out of the ballpark after her unexpected rendition of the anthem and is not expected to be banned from Dodger Stadium going forward. The Dodgers did not have any comment when asked by The Athletic about the video, which she herself posted after the fact.

Amid the ongoing protests across the country over the weekend and continued frustrations in Los Angeles over US Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, one singer decided to take a stand with her performance at a Dodgers game. Nezza, whose full name is Vanessa Hernández, performed the song Saturday.
