On Across the Movie Aisle this week, we asked if MATERIALISTS works (yes and no) and if boycotting Mubi on BDS grounds will work (no, unless your desire is to hurt independent film). www.thebulwark.com/p/indie-cinemas-hypocrisy-problem

MATERIALISTS recalls some of the mature 1980s rom-coms where all the main characters were in the 30s-40s age range — the kind where the characters, regardless of being likeable or unlikeable, got the best-written lines. Celine Song's MATERIALISTS is a moving portrait of love and our capability to find it beyond classist parameters, in even the bleakest times. And truly, it's what we all need right now. Got a little too personal in my review but man, I loved this film. rendyreviews.com/movie-reviews/materialists-review
