During May, the rate of Antarctic sea ice growth was slow relative to the 1981-2010 average, but faster than 2023. As of 6/1, Antarctic sea ice extent was 10.52 MM sq km (4.06 MM sq miles) which is 1.14 MM sq km (440,000 sq mi) below the 1981-2010 average. bit.ly/4e7Y8Q0 pic.twitter.com/HTIyYg5u4X

Wondering what's been going on with sea ice extent and thickness in 2024 and how it compares to the past? Check out NSIDC senior research scientist Walt Meier's recent interview with @KPCWGreenEarth! bit.ly/3x5Q2Xn

Just attending a 3-day workshop on the danger of abrupt ocean circulation changes. Discussions are quite worrying. E.g. in 35 to 45 % of high quality models, convection in the open North Atlantic collapses in the 2030s due to #globalheating. -> Major climate disruption. ☹️ pic.twitter.com/NQ8ckrdLGA

Breaking News! Code Yikes! Antarctic sea-ice extent is now the second lowest on record for the date. It seems another Southern hemisphere Winter of Antarctic sea-ice f&%kery is upon us. pic.twitter.com/EWcrvt9Lyj
