It is one of Iran's most secure military bases. Mossad has been accused of assassinating Masoud Alimohammadi, Ardeshir Hosseinpour, Majid Shahriari, Darioush Rezaeinejad and Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan; scientists involved in the Iranian nuclear program.

Iran's current government does not recognize Israel's legitimacy as a state and has called for its destruction; it views Palestine as the sole legitimate government of the historic Palestinian territories.

Al Udeid Air Base is southwest of Doha and serves as the forward headquarters for CENTCOM. Thousands of U.S. troops are based there.
