"Elio" earns Pixar its worst box office debut ever

Things are not looking up for Pixar after the legendary animation studio recently had its worst box office opening ever for “Elio.” Against a $250 million budget, the animated science fiction film brought in $21 million in its opening weekend.

In the case of “Elio,” box office analysts believe an unfavorable release date contributed to the film's disastrous opening weekend. “Elio” opened one week after Universal's live-action “How to Train Your Dragon,” which targeted a similar younger audience and stayed strong with $37 million in its sophomore outing.

Being a Disney and Pixar movie, though, we can expect it to stream on Disney Plus when it does become available. Based on the average wait for a new Pixar release, I'm predicting that "Elio" could come to Disney Plus in late September 2025.
