Wess Roley identified as suspect in fatal Idaho ambush

Police sources have identified 20-year-old Wess Roley as the suspect in the sniper attack on firefighters in Idaho, according to the BBC's US partner CBS News.

The firefighters were dispatched to conduct reconnaissance after the authorities received a phone call about a fire on Canfield Mountain, on the eastern outskirts of Coeur d'Alene, at about 1:21 p.m., Sheriff Norris said. About 40 minutes later, firefighters said that they were being shot at, he said.

The man suspected of shooting firefighters on Sunday as they responded to a brush fire in Idaho has been identified, a law enforcement official said on Monday. The suspect, who was found dead at the scene, was identified as Wess Roley, 20, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, the official said.
