Karen Read's second murder trial

She was ultimately charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. While some defendants are held without bail pending the outcome of their trial, Read has been out on bail since the day after her arrest on Feb. 1, 2022.

Jury selection in the Karen Read retrial started April 1, and opening arguments were made April 22. The jury began deliberations on June 13. Read is facing the same three felony charges from her 2024 trial that lasted nine and a half weeks and ended in a hung jury.

Closing arguments were made Friday morning in the Karen Read murder trial, with the jury expected to begin its deliberations later in the day. Court got underway around 8:45 a.m., and after a series of sidebars, closing arguments began around 9:45 with defense attorney Alan Jackson.
