Legal analyst Daniel Pi said the not guilty verdict shows prosecutors failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Read killed O'Keefe. "One of the reasons is because the police and prosecution failed in their burden and did not investigate all plausible alternatives," Pi said.

Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of killing her police officer boyfriend John O'Keefe in a trial that captured the nation, has been found not guilty of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death.

Read was arrested in 2022 and was accused of killing her boyfriend of two years, who was a Boston police officer, by drunkenly running him over after a night out together in January 2022. She pleaded not guilty and vehemently denied having any involvement in the death.
