The breakdown of the alliance between the SNP and the Greens was triggered two weeks ago, when the Scottish government confirmed it was dropping its emissions target for 2030 after concluding the ambitious goal could no longer be reached.

Yousaf said he "underestimated" the level of hurt after ending a power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens last week. The SNP leader was facing two votes of no confidence later this week and said in his speech that it's "absolutely possible" he could have won by cutting a deal.
