A few hours ago, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the Alaska Peninsula, just south of Sand Point. Local residents and summer visitors alike were able to evacuate thanks to federal tsunami advisories relayed through local public broadcasting stations.
That’s the real world.

While thanking God last night when the tsunami threat passed, I couldn’t help but think this is exactly why rural emergency alert funding shouldn’t be rescinded.
Lives are on the line. This is more than politics.

My team and I are closely monitoring the 7.3 magnitude earthquake near the Alaska Peninsula. Our prayers are with everyone affected.
Because of the tsunami advisory, mariners should be mindful over the next 24 hours for any unusual conditions.
Please take all necessary

A Tsunami Advisory has been issued for the Alaska Peninsula areas from the Kennedy Entrance to Unimak Pass. Cities included are Cold Bay, Sand Point, and Kodiak. We can say with reasonable confidence that the Kenai Peninsula Borough locations will not see impacts. pic.x.com/mSYAjgwVyF
