Los Angeles Lakers coaching history, who were their past coaches? Prior to Darvin Ham's last two seasons at the helm of the storied franchise, Frank Vogel coached the Lakers for three seasons, starting with the COVID-19 pandemic shortened 2020 season in which the Lakers won an NBA title while playing the bubble.

Ham took the helm of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2022-2023 season with a four-year contract. The financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, but various sources indicate that the contract was worth between $3-5 million. The former player did not have a bad performance leading the Lakers.

Phil Handy had one year left on his contract with the Lakers. By firing him, they are giving him a chance to pursue other opportunities whether that be as a head coach or an assistant instead of essentially forcing him onto the staff of the next head coach.
