United States celebrates Juneteenth, marking emancipation

On Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom and recommit ourselves to the work that remains undone. We remember that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope for tomorrow’s light.

Today, we commemorate an important milestone on America's long road toward liberty and justice for all. #Juneteenth is not only a reminder of slavery's stain on the soul of our nation and a celebration of freedom—but an opportunity to recommit our fight for a more perfect union.
