I think it would be helpful for the National Hurricane Center (NHC) itself to put out a statement signed by at least 23 employees explaining how important these satellites 🛰 are to public safety and assure Miami and 🇺🇸 that people won't die due to bad forecasts or missing data. pic.x.com/1BH5RmOXRa

This reminds me of when NHC Director Bill Proenza sounded the alarm on a similar weather satellite in 2007. Miami meteorologist right down the road from NHC explains how many people will die because of missing data, leading to worse or missing forecasts www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/john-morales-take-on-forecasters-loosing-other-hurricane-tool/3646310/

I got a lot of questions about the government cutting off access to weather data from DoD satellites. I tried my best to answer them as best I could here: theeyewall.com/a-couple-minor-things-to-watch-in-the-atlantic-tropics-while-we-digest-the-implications-of-the-loss-of-a-significant-forecasting-tool/ @TheEyewallWx pic.x.com/uauzC7iORB

'The U.S. Department of Defense will no longer provide satellite weather data, leaving hurricane forecasters without crucial information about storms as peak hurricane season looms in the Atlantic.' www.npr.org/2025/06/28/nx-s1-5446120/defense-department-cuts-hurricane-ice-weather-satellite?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=user%2Fnpr
