Birthright citizenship guarantees if you're born in the United States, you are automatically a U.S. citizen. It helps guarantee that all people are equal under the law, regardless of background or ancestry.

“The Constitution guarantees birthright citizenship, and no procedural ruling will stop us from fighting to uphold that promise,” said Tianna Mays, legal director for Democracy Defenders Fund.

"Let's be clear, birthright citizenship remains the law of the land in states like New Jersey and in every state across the country," New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin (D). Birthright citizenship, under the 14th Amendment, says any person born on American soil is an American citizen.
