Elio, a new Pixar film, has the lowest opening weekend ever

Elio will eventually make its way to Disney+ at a later date. The Pixar film will likely arrive on the streaming site around three months after its theatrical release, or likely sometime in September 2025.

Pixar has had its worst box office opening ever with Elio, its new, alien-themed children's animation, taking just an estimated US$21m in North America and $14m internationally, despite generally positive reviews.

But the turnout for “Elio” was worse — much worse — than even Pixar had expected. The film, which cost at least $250 million to make and market, collected an estimated $21 million from Thursday evening through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to Comscore, which compiles box office data.
